Celebrate the arrival of summer with Japan's most loved festival, the Bon Odori

"Obon" signifies a special period in the summer where ancestors descend from heaven to earth to have their spirits comforted. But, it is also a time of festivity where yukatas (Casual Summer Kimono) are worn and people indulge in festive food and drinks served at yatai's, or outdoor food stalls, while 'bon dancing' the night away.

We are excited to introduce the "NEW BON ODORI" which is a modern version of this traditional Bon dance. It was first choreographed in 2008, and has been an annual dance event ever since, welcoming more than 9,500 visitors.

The director of "NEW BON ODORI," Ryohei Kondo, is a renowned contemporary dancer and choreographer in Japan. His dance unit, called "Condors," has toured in over 30 countries, and their performance in New York was highly commended by The New York Times.

Every year, the festival unravels in front of JR Ikebukuro Station, west Exit.

So, this summer, come and see the juxtaposition of old and new at this special event!

Traditional festival food and drinks such as yakisoba (fried noodles) and yakitori(barbecued chicken), beer will be available in abundance.

Don't worry about not knowing the dance steps! Also, reservations or entrance fees are not required.
